DETAILS OF RELEVANT EMPLOYMENT
'Beth Noray Consultancy and Training'
I left the Dementia Centre in December 2001 and have started my own consultancy and training company. The aim of the company is to work with organisations in whatever way seems most appropriate to develop the quality of their dementia care. This may be consultancy or training, or a mixture of both. I am developing a workbook and mentor's handbook for Oxfordshire SSD, I am auditing the training for Quantum Care and helping them design a new course. I am working with Hanover Housing Association on the training for their estate managers in dementia and elder abuse. I am carrying out a mentoring role and giving long-arm supervision to the dementia training at Shaw Homes. I also undertake some teaching for the School of Health Care at Oxford Brookes University.
Oxford Dementia Centre,
Training and Development Officer
I took up my post with the Oxford Dementia Centre in November 1998. I designed training programmes, mainly customised to meet the individual needs of the organisation, and I delivered them. During the last three years I designed and delivered training to various multidisciplinary groups, direct care staff and wardens in sheltered housing. I also spoke at national conferences. I also answered all training enquiries to the Centre, and advised on individual training needs. I taught the module in 'social work with older people with mental disorders' to students on the BA (Hons) in Social Work, at Oxford Brookes University.
Anchor Trust,
Corporate Training and Development Adviser
I was part of the corporate training team, which sought to develop policies, procedures, strategies and training, to help Anchor achieve its corporate goals. This involved work around policies such as abuse and harassment. I also had a particular remit for dementia services, which was still in an embryo stage, but marked Anchor's recognition of dementia as an issue that affects all its business, not just residential and nursing services. I co-ordinated project workers and initiatives, developed a database, and produced a dementia training services newsletter. I also identified training needs and developed training initiatives to meet them, which involved my designing, commissioning and carrying out training programmes.
Training Consultant
This was my own business, which enabled me to use the full range of my experience as well as meeting new challenges. My main areas of work were with Oxfordshire Social Services Department, where I delivered care assistant courses and complaints training. At Berkshire Social Services Department I acted as Study Supervisor for the Thames Valley CSS scheme in both the Management and Groupwork options. I also taught at Newbury College on the 'City and Guilds' 325 Course and National Warden's Certificate.
Berkshire County Council, Social Services Department,
Senior Study Supervisor
I was responsible for managing eight study supervisors who worked with students on the Certificate in Social Services (CSS) and the In-Service Course in Social Care (ICSC) providing them with support, supervision and training. I was also involved in setting up National Vocational Qualifications for social care staff. I trained and recruited lay study supervisors for students on the ICSC courses. It was also my role to arrange the selection process and organise the intake of students for CSS and OCSC, and to monitor the content and the quality of teaching on the courses.
Langley College, Slough,
Study Supervisor
This was a new post created to provide study supervision to students attending the newly created ICSC course at Langley College, Slough.
Wiltshire County Council, Social Services Department,
Social Worker
This was a new post based at a Psychogeriatric unit in an elderly persons' home in Swindon and involved the assessment of clients in the community and in hospital for placement in the unit.
Avon County Council, Social Services Department,
Principal Training Officer
I was responsible for managing nine training officers and three clerical staff and for the Department's training budget of over a million pounds. The Training Officers provided CSS study supervision and carried out the Department's training programme. I had a place on the Departmental Management Team and advised on all training matters. I also liaised with Universities and Polytechnics over courses and placements. During my period in office, the Department re-structured and I interviewed people for redeployment.
Gloucester County Council, Social Services Department,
Training Officer
This was a new post created to provide Approved Social Worker training under the Mental Health Act 1983. I was responsible for designing and producing the training for the county, which included four ASW courses, as well as providing training for staff working with mentally impaired and physically disabled people. I also arranged all the placements for CQSW students and arranged supervision courses.
